burya
ruled by Czar Arisha Sokolov
next in line; Tsarevichs Pasha & Katya,
Tsarinas Sirius, Ailani, Shakti & Xitalli
[Xitalli is widely considered the heir apparent]
A cold Northern country that has only a sliver of a coast, Burya is mostly known for their rich mines and their many, many jewels. Burya's name comes from the Buryian word meaning 'storm' or 'gale', as they have many tempestuous storms. Burya trades out of their port, which their capital city, Zoloto, is situated very near to. (Zoloto is Buryian for 'gold', a nod to Burya's copious number of mines.) They trade a great deal with the Veralsy and Mikena, and when Acriens was open for exports, them as well.
The royal family resides in Zoloto in a castle that was built a great while ago, and lacks many modern comforts. It is open to guests, however, and traveling dignitaries are allowed to visit as well, though there are few places within that one can actually stay. The royal family has recently greatly increased in size, though Arisha Sokolov remains the Czar. She took sole control of the country many years ago, after the unexpected and mysterious death of her Buryian-born husband, and ushered in an immediate period of peace.
It was assumed that her eldest child, Pasha, would inherit the throne from her, but as the years have gone on and Pasha has had his own children, the theories have since changed. It is now figured that Xitalli, ironically the youngest Sokolov heir, will ascend to the throne when Arisha steps down. He's best suited for it, people say, and has proved his dedication to the country many times throughout his childhood.
Like Brindille they have thick patches of natural wood, and trade occasionally in timber. They are picky with cutting in their tundra forests however; they maintain habitats that are not seen elsewhere in the world, and act as homes for a number of endangered species. Special permits are required to do any major cutting, and so their wood, when it can be acquired, is highly desired. It is supposedly more malleable than even wood from Hechiz.
The national language is Buryian.
