cause nothing grows when it is dark

personality;;
Fiorello works hard to cultivate a reputation that is very little like how he actually is. He has been presented to the courts as Halcyon and Loraline's guard, working in conjunction with Thalassa; but in truth Fiorello is Acriens' true king, an ascension that was achieved through the brutal death of his late husband. Fiorello obviously does not speak of this; he's learned how to keep his head down, how to avoid fights, how to twist out of a brewing argument. He learned such things with his husband, an aggressive, violent man, and carries such lessons into his meetings with Acriens' neighbours. He's skilled at maintaining an evenly blank face, at presenting himself as little more than bored when he is avidly listening. He plays the role of bodyguard well, and suggests to the twin 'heirs' what would be the proper thing to say. As a teen he dabbled in a blacksmith's shop and has retained some basic skills, and he crafts swords and blades when he has the time for it. To keep up his bodyguard look he wears a number of guns and swords and all other sorts of defensive weapons, though he is generally rather passive and reluctant to actually fight.
He matches the twins for attitude and as Lora and Tori have been his friends since childhood, only he can get away with calling them out on their shenanigans. He is constantly chiding them for their rude commentary in their indecipherable form of Greek, and endlessly reminds them of their manners. While he is very friendly back home and is surrounded by a council of friends, he is quiet and closed-off anywhere else. He has all the royals memorized and can rattle off a number of facts about them, including spouses, family members, and personal politics. To present the proper bodyguard front Fiorello is currently carrying around an enormous sword, and although he complaints about the weight and everything else he refuses to remove it. He tells the twins he needs to remain staunch and intimidating, which he usually manages despite his small stature. When Thalassa was still present they would often stand to either side of the twins, making Fiorello's minimal height (especially compared to Thalassa's) extra hilarious.

occupation;;
currently posing as Lora and Tori's bodyguard in truth, he's Acriens' king Fiorello right now is a pretend bodyguard. After usurping his husband the Acriens' king Fiorello assumed the throne himself; and he immediately began preparations to heal their country, to end the violent skirmishes that their last king had turned a blind eye to. Fiorello quickly realized that they needed to make Acriens public again, if they had any hope of regaining trade relations with their neighbours; and after some thought he chose Halcyon and Loraline to represent his country. The twins are not royals, but them and Fiorello have been friends since childhood and they are an excellent cover. Thalassa is Fiorello's actual bodyguard, and briefly accompanied the three of them to Mikena. Fio recently dispatched him to chase a rumor of Vassilios, who Fiorello is privately desperate to find. Thalassa is on the seas now, keeping a low profile on Solomon's ship as an anonymous cargo loader. He has plans to move to Baozhai's ship whenever they land at the same port, for hopes that Baozhai might have heard something of the boy. Fio waits to bated breath and tries to strike a convincing alliance with the Mikennan queen, who he regards with some good-natured suspicion. |
