kings and queens and guillotines
taking lives denied
theme song;; Kings and Queens by Aerosmith
personality;;
Hecuba was brought to Mikena to be married to the crown prince, and they came to the throne together; but she fiercely hated the man, and when he pried from her an heir she began plotting a way to rid herself of him. She never intended to take the kingdom for her own, but when she finally devised a way to poison the man, she took full advantage of his impending death. She became queen when Clytemnestra was only four, with the 'mysterious' death of the king a shroud about her shoulders. Despite or perhaps because of the fairly common fact that she was behind her husband's death, no one attested that she should not have the throne. She has always been fearless but she became more so when the king passed, and she garnered a reputation for being a merciless queen. She was cheerful about bringing the smaller countries to heel when they did not listen to her, skilled with her manipulation of the army and their ships. It was with some relief to their neighbours when Clytemnestra assumed the throne earlier this year, for she is far more even-natured than her mother.
With this sudden bout of free time, Hecuba has been traveling between Mikena and Burya with some frequency. She was always good friends with the Mikenan queen Arisha, and their friendship has only deepened since Hecuba has stepped down. She is immediately recognizable to any of her people; and despite their friendly countenance with her daughter, her people will always stop to kneel to her. Hecuba has an air about her of danger, her smiles always a little too sharp, her lines a little too cruel. She is unafraid to manipulate anyone to achieve her desires and she has chosen a council well, for the people on it are a fine balance between men who scrape at her feet and women who defy her. She feels satisfied with leaving Clytemnestra in their hands, knowing that her daughter will have room to shove if a problem comes to a head.

occupation;;
Queen Mother of Mikena Hecuba's daughter Clytemnestra is officially queen, but she has still given to her mother a great deal of power. Hecuba is called the Queen Mother; she was queen for long enough that the people know her, and even if she no longer holds the title she will be seen as queen for much longer. This gives her a lot of freedom; she can leave the castle with much more frequency than she ever could before, and she does not have to be as meticulous with guards and escorts and everything else. She kind of likes the freedom of it, as she never expected nor wanted to be queen, but she stays close enough to the capital to be of help to Clytemnestra should she need it. |
trivia;;
-it is generally well-known that she killed her husband, the late king -she was involved in the death of Arisha's husband too -Clytemnestra is her only child and honestly she's fine with that -she has few friends, for she's extremely intimidating and rather callous -she knits for her own amusement and makes Cly a scarf every Christmas -if she's not in Mikena, she is guaranteed to be visiting Arisha in Burya |
