najaati
ruled by Crowns [agender] + [sister]
no claimed Coronets
Najaati is so vastly different than their direct neighbors that it's a wonder they share a continent at all. Where Hechiz is wet and humid, Najaati is usually painfully dry. They receive little rain while Hechiz is drowned in it. The majority of Najaati is actually desert, with a few patches of grasslands and short, unhealthy trees creasing the endless horizon. There is some desert which is habitable, but the more farther into the country you go the worse it gets. They say that the middle of Najaati is made only for the gods, for it is so hot it drives mortals to dehydration within a day.
Their capital is Rouhi, and situated on the coast that faces Zenobia. Najaati specializes in exporting crafted things; the people are largely skilled with their hands, for lack of anything else to do. Most of the houses that are built out in the actual desert and built singularly of local flora, and are pulled down and rebuilt every time a sandstorm comes roaring through. Their boats are made much the same way.
Their monarchy is usually inherited from parents or other family, but this is not a necessity. Najaati is always ruled by two people called Crowns; they are more often than not siblings, or parents and children, but as stated this is not a requirement for the rank. Crowns will take care to name two people as Coronets, though this is a title that can be given out to many heirs. The preference is to name two children as Coronets, and thus shape their lives and monarchical styles as they grow, and this is how it has been in Najaati for generations.
The two Crowns they have now were Najaati's Coronets only four months ago. The previous Crowns were the siblings' father and grandmother, and when the slinking sickness swept through their country and killed whole cities, the two prior Crowns were lost. The Coronets inherited the throne far earlier than either had ever expected, and cannot properly mourn the loss of their family as they must restrengthen Najaati herself. This is the first time in remembered history that Najaati has had no named Coronets for more than a month; but the Crowns, young as they are, aren't planning on having children anytime soon, and few kids survived the virus.
The intention of having two Crowns is for them to balance one another out, and to trust each other intrinsically. They each maintain very small councils, which are usually built out of a number of very close friends.
The national language is Najaat.
