and I took you by the hand
and we stood tall
theme song;; After The Storm by Mumford and Sons
personality;;
Nyiri is oftentimes difficult to get a read on. He generally keeps to himself; he's regularly quite expressionless, and good at keeping his cards close to his chest. He isn't partial to trusting anybody, and is particularly reluctant to befriend anyone new. The best part of himself is by far his bird, Kauket. She is an extension of his soul, as was the normal of his original world, a physical manifestation of his true self. She is about as talkative as him but she is usually easier to read, liable to slick back her feathers when upset or resettle her wings when pleased with something. Nyiri keeps the truth of what Kauket is to him a closely guarded secret; he could be exploited easily if someone got a hold of her, and can only consider himself lucky that animals such as Kauket are not known here. While he never seems concerned over anything he is partial to Kauket, and when thinking deeply touches her feet or feathers.
He is a shrewd, calculating individual, and willing to do a great deal of immoral things to get a good price. He likes living in comfort, as he only briefly got the chance back home, and frankly he spoils himself. His crew is constantly changing, as he picks up and drops off different desperate individuals, but the main staple of his life is his adopted son Ellerbee. Nyiri was never interested in children and doubted he would ever have any of his own, so Ellerbee was extremely unexpected; but Nyiri surprised himself by his genuine affection for the child, and kept him on long after he had an opportunity to leave the orphan somewhere. Now Nyiri relies on Ellerbee much to the same extent as he does Kauket, and trusts them both the same. He has a fickle soul but he is uniformly dedicated to both these two, and would do anything for either. (This is not something he broadcasts, both to maintain his reputation and to keep the both of them safe.) It is only those rare folks that truly befriend him that realize his love for them both.

and remembered our own land
what we lived for
occupation;;
a merchant/pirate/"adventurer" Nyiri was born and raised in a parallel world; but he came to this one when his own fell to ruin, and visits only occasionally to steal what little was left behind. He spends the majority of his time on the sea, going from port to port and selling his strange, exotic items for exorbitant fees, but frequently he takes his ship to dock and spend months inland, disappearing into the desert for what he calls 'rest'. He is something of a pirate in the sense that is not above stealing something that catches his eye, and his ship is large enough to bully smaller merchant vessels in a pinch. "pets";; Nyiri is accompanied everywhere by a female Egyptian Vulture named Kauket. She is what allows him to go back and forth between his old world and this one; she is capable of opening tears in time, through which he can travel. She is a subdued, elegant creature, who has set scars into his shoulders and arms from her curved feet. She infrequently flies and insists that Nyiri carry her everywhere, and is apathetic to being handled by strangers. She will sit on anybody's arm that is offered to her, but she has a wicked habit of biting so one must be careful with her. She functions as an extension of Nyiri's soul, as was common in his home-world. If she is hurt he feels it, and the opposite is true as well. Thus he is regularly very protective of her. |
trivia;;
-Nyiri's birth world is something of a post-apocalyptic graveyard now -there was an outbreak of a deadly disease that killed most everybody -Nyiri was one of the few who were immune -he was born with Kauket, as was the normal of his world -he didn't realize she had any 'abilities' until she showed him to the new world when he was about 14 -he spends the majority of his time here but goes home frequently to steal whatever weird things he can find -he stumbled on Ellerbee in this world when he was a toddler and, with nothing else to do, brought him back to the ship -Nyiri grew surprisingly attached to the boy and kept him -Nyiri does sometimes bring Ellerbee 'home' with him, as Bee has a good, quick eye -Kauket is fond of Ellerbee and will groom his hair -Kauket can also speak, but is infrequently roused to conversation |
