I could tell you stories like the government tells lies
oh but no one listens any more
theme song;; Before the Eyes of Storytelling Girls by Anais Mitchell
personality;;
Quetz has never spent much time around people, and within a short conversation even a complete stranger can tell. She's wildly standoffish and has a difficult time feigning interest in anything; she spaces on when she's spoken to, her mind wrapped up in unrelated issues that she worries at like a sore tooth. She has no desire for human companionship, and mostly avoids the villages and towns she comes across in her wanderings, making exceptions only for truly emergency situations. She will occasionally stop at villages to help, when there's a drought situation or something similar, but for the most part she spends her long days in the endless desert. She is always moving, going nowhere in particular, that particular wanderlust itch making it impossible for her to find somewhere to settle down. At the most she will spend two or three days somewhere, and then she's gone when no one thinks to look.
She is accompanied everywhere by two animals, a pinyon jay named Xico and and a coyote called Lin. These animals can speak and do often speak with her, though they are about as interested in other people as she is. When around strangers they act as 'regular' animals, as much as an unusual bird and a semi-tamed coyote can. Quetz has garnered quite a mythology in her short desert life, and is known for the miracles she works in the sands. She does save lives sometimes, from those unfortunate souls who get lost in her dunes, though this is not an especially common occurrence. Mostly she cultivates oases and grows the wildest plants she can dream up, and helps the animals she stumbles on. She usually has a number of wild animals accompanying her, much like her father Nudge, though it is only ever Xico and Lin who stay. Quetz is sharp-tongued, impatient and feels always in a hurry, though she is never going anywhere specific. She could not fathom living anywhere but as a nomad in the sands.

I could tell you stories like the past was dead and gone
but I know nothing changes in this world
occupation;;
wandering god ??? Quetz inherited her father's godliness, and as such wanders wherever she desires and largely does whatever she wants. She specializes in working with plants and animals, as that is her father's domain, but the animals are by far her preference. She keeps conversation with birds more often than she does people, and she likes it that way. She cannot be bought into servitude, but she does sometimes come unexpectedly into towns who are experiencing a hardship. Her presence around animals calms and strengthens them, and she need only touch one to heal them entirely. She is worshipped as a god, and called Lady of the Sands. pets;; Quetzalxochitl goes everywhere with two steadfast companions: a female pinyon jay named Xicotenco "Xico", and a male coyote she calls Huitzilin "Lin". These two have been with her for as long as she can remember, and have gained their own following among the mythology that has sprouted around her. They are intelligent, though Quetz is unsure if this is because they were always this way or if they have simply been around her for too long now. |
