never good, just the bad and the ugly
laid in front of you
theme song;; Warmth by Bastille
personality;;
Thalassa worked for Acriens' previous king for over ten years, and at the beginning he did whatever dirty work the man requested of him. Thalassa is bent to be submissive; he prefers being told what to do, relents being put in charge. He prizes loyalty over practically anything else, and for a number of years he bowed to his king without hesitation. But when Diomedes took Fiorello as his spouse, and his cruelties only increased, Thalassa's first worries began creeping in. Thalassa became aware to how badly Diomede treated his so-called pets, unusual folks he collected from across the whole island; and shortly thereafter he assisted on his first jailbreak. He befriended Fiorello through this process and his loyalty shifted to the smaller man. He's sort of low-key the dad friend and is infamous for his disappointed looks.
Thalassa isn't particularly friendly but he is immensely selfless, and he will sacrifice whatever he must for literally anyone, including genuine strangers. He remembers fondly one of the first kids he helped smuggle out of the castle, a young boy with wings called Bree; and he wonders still about the adolescent, where he might have gone off to, if he found a better life off the island. He rarely laughs and has a dry sense of humor, so it's always hard to tell if he's actually amused; but he's attentive and polite and sometimes quite charming, so he's easy to get along with despite his reticence. Thalassa is very pristine and picky about his looks, and is known across Acriens for being one of the few fighters with long hair. When he's preparing for a fight he sets his mass of hair up in a complicated style, an intricate layering of braids and whatever else; and if he's expecting foul play, he's likely to thread his braids with small, deadly blades. There is never an invitation to touch Thalassa's hair, for he frequently keeps a naked blade at the back of his neck. He does not appreciate being touched, and he can handle any sort of weapon in any one of his four hands.

I go searching for you
wandering through our city to find some solace at your door
occupation;;
actual bodyguard to Fiorello pretend bodyguard to Loraline and Halcyon There's a popular Acrien joke that has to do with Thalassa and his four arms; that the man's intimidating with the two, that he's invincible with four. It's not exactly a lie, though Thalassa discourages it when said in his company. He is in fact an extremely talented swordsman and can use all four of his arms with equal skill, though he is generally more comfortable with the lower set. He originally accompanied Fio and co to Mikena, in order to keep an eye on Fio, but when Fio heard a rumor that someone had seen his adopted son Vassilios on a ship he dispatched Thalassa to track him down. He's on Solomon's ship right now and has plans to move to Baozhai's when they hit the same port, in the hopes that the woman might know something of the boy. He doesn't know that Jaibrien is still on her ship; it simply hasn't occurred to him that she might have kept him when she smuggled him out. |
trivia;;
-although he worked for Diomedes for years, he often smuggled his favorite toys right out from under his nose -he helped Fiorello orchestrate the whole assassination and usurpation -Thalassa got Jaibrien out of the country personally and gave him over to Baozhai so she could take him somewhere safe -he had a hand in Zyron's escape as well, though a more minimal part -he remembers Bree with great affection and has sworn that once Acriens is again peaceful he will find the time to track him down |
