It's okay to say you've got a weak spot
you don't always have to be on top
theme song;; I Am Not A Robot by Marina and the Diamonds
personality;;
Bree doesn't act like one might expect, given that he was practically raised by pirates. He's very shy, non-confrontational, quiet; he keeps to himself most of the time, although he's friends with literally everyone on the ship. He's incredibly easy to get along with because he is so soft and kind; he sees the good in everyone, and has an innate desire to help it come out. He doesn't believe anyone is truly evil, despite the horrors he has seen in his past. He has impeccable manners and is uncomfortable around people who don't. He's quite submissive, a trait that Baozhai and Katya have done their best to drill out of him; it comes from being where he was, as a slave, this constant urge to serve. He's absolutely not allowed in the kitchens on the ship because he will definitely try to take everyone's chores and do everything himself. He hates being served and gets antsy when someone defers to him.
He's incredibly selfless and considers the crew his family and would do anything to help or save one of them. Baozhai does not confine him to the ship but encourages that he stay there; if someone saw him they would surely try something. Jaibrien comes from a kingdom where the people are obsessed with unusual mutations, such as his wings, and so he must be careful not to be seen and recognized. He actually hates leaving the ship anyway, so it's not a big burden for him to bear. He gets anxious in large groups and crowds, and overwhelmed sometimes even in smaller groups if they're strangers. He feels too deeply and too genuinely; he often will cry for someone else's sake, distressed for them, even if the problem has nothing to do with him. He volunteers with the ship doctor quite a lot because the crew loves for him to stand beside them and hold their hands. They call him their little bird.

better to be hated than loved

occupation;;
Baozhai's pirate heir For being raised on a pirate ship, Bree isn't much of a pirate. If Baozhai hadn't brought him aboard it's unlikely the crew ever would have accepted his demure, quiet attitude; but they all consider him one of their own, and so he's found a family among them. Bree doesn't really do much on the illegal side of things, although he has a decent head for numbers and is adept at figuring out the best deals for Boazhai's loot from competing merchants. He rarely interacts with anyone outside of the ship and truthfully infrequently leaves it. He helps Xia occasionally when she's drafting speeches and the like, though frankly she doesn't need his help. She indulges him nonetheless. pets;; Jaibrien has got a common seagull buddy named Triscuit. Bree and Triscuit are two peas in a pod; Triscuit imprinted on Bree when she was just a chick, and she's convinced he's her parent. If she's not on him or somewhere on board she's flying alongside the ship, languorous slow flaps of her wings that she often matches to Bree. The two of them fly together a lot, and Bree actually incidentally 'taught' Triscuit how to fly. Triscuit and Baozhai's cat Captain get along alright; mostly Triscuit stays out of his way, and he out of hers. |
trivia;;
-Bree taught his seagull friend Triscuit how to fly -they often go flying together now, to scout or just to stretch their wings -he's been on the ocean for so long he gets weak-kneed on land -he very rarely talks about what he was doing before Baozhai stole him -when he does speak of it, it is dreadful, chilling stories -Bree was something of a kept pet for the king of Acriens, prized for his wings but hobbled so he could not leave -he bears many scars still, a particularly noticeable one lining his neck -an impressive cook, Bree prefers to bake sweets than anything else -he can't whistle -he can't bear himself to kill anything, whether animal or bug, and insists the crew tells him when they've cornered something so he can put it someplace safe |
