zenobia
ruled by High Queen/Oracle Xiomara Elias
accompanied by Queen Consort Roisin Elias and Queen Brother Vannamayil Elias
An enormous island country that encompasses three very different biospheres, Zenobia is most well-known for their strict government and their many devotional temples. While the old religion has fallen by the wayside in the majority of the countries, Zenobia maintains a healthy sense of belief. That being said, their opinions on the gods have evolved as time has gone on, and many of their versions of the gods are far removed from their original intentions. Zefiryn in particular is worshiped devoutly here, much to the eldest goddess' chagrin. Zenobia, which has a bizarre obsession with four arms (in echoing Zefiryn's six, more than likely) innately considers two-armed folk inferior to the rest of them. It has led to class unrest in the past, and may again soon.
Zenobia is primarily jungle, and sports a thick patch of rainforest that remains to this day incompletely mapped. Their country is studded with massive ruins, and the most famous of these can be found in the islands off Mikena's main coast. Sitting opposite their capital Eumache is the largest separate island, and the location of the most zealous followers. The island is naturally defended by enormous rock formations underwater, and is difficult to get to unless you've previously been shown the way. Subsequently strangers coming here are rather infrequent.
In contrast, Eumache is a bustling city. Zenobia performs most of their trading out of this bay, and it is also where the royal family resides. The majority of the population lives here. The rainforest is unfriendly to the majority of travelers, and only the most hardy people can carve homes into the mountain range to their north. Along Zenobia's western coast, however, is a great swathe of grassland, where herd animals are kept. They also do some farming here, on the edges of the natural grasslands. Zenobia is strict on permanently changing the landscape; so their flora and fauna live generally unbothered here, and grow as is their wont.
The government is a matriarchy, and always topped by a female High Queen. The religious folks also refer to her as the Oracle, and sometimes the common people do as well. This rank is not inherited through bloodline, however: traditionally, a queen announces that she is looking for an heir and all local families who have a six-armed daughter arrive with her in tow. The queen chooses a successor and raises them as their own, and when the queen passes the princess assumes the crown. It is infrequently done that the queens have children at all. If chosen, the queens can maintain spouses, formally known as the Queen Consort/s. They have no formal power and are submissive even to the queen's council. They are commonly chosen by the council itself.
Zenobia is a place of magic. It is said they are closest to the Old Gods here, what with the ruins and the people's lingering beliefs, and it is well known that in Zenobia magicians are born. They are one of the few countries to provide training for their magicians, in a sort of schooling. Many receive jobs with the government and High Queen after graduation, and the castle is thick with them.
The nation language is Zenobian.
